چکیده
This paper deals with Multi-Protocol Label SwitchingTraffic Engineering Routing (MPLS-TE Routing) Systems which offer key Traffic Engineering features, including optimization of resources utilization, Quality-of-Service (QoS) and Fast Recovery. Numerous MPLS-TE Routing systems have been defined in the past with their own advantages and drawbacks. This paper proposes a generic architecture for MPLS-TE Routing Systems, with the main objective of helping in classification, analysis and improvement of these systems or the design of new systems. This architecture includes main functions that may be required in an MPLS-TE Routing System. These functions and their interactions are described. Various approaches and options for the implementation and the distribution of these functions in network elements are qualitatively discussed.

MPLS-TE Routing: Adopting a Generic Architecture and Evaluating Various Implementation Approaches
Various Multi-Protocol Label Switching-Traffic Engineering (MPLS-TE) Routing Systems have been proposed in the literature to achieve optimization of resources utilization, Quality-of-Service (QoS) and Fast Recovery. This paper proposes a generic architecture for MPLS-TE Routing Systems, which aims to ease the classification and the analysis of these systems. Then this paper defines a set of MPL...
متن کاملExtending MPLS Traffic Engineering to deal with QoS
Traffic Engineering (TE) deals with the performance optimization in operational networks, aiming for example at the fair distribution of traffic in order to avoid or minimize congestion. Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a key technology that enables advanced TE functionality. The MPLS framework consists of several components, such as the label switched forwarding plane, the label distri...
متن کاملAn MPLS-based Quality of Service Architecture for Heterogeneous Networks
(ABSTRACT) This thesis proposes a multi-protocol label switching (MPLS)-based architecture to provide quality of service (QoS) for both internet service provider (ISP) networks and backbone Internet Protocol (IP) networks that are heterogeneous in nature. Heterogeneous networks are present due to the use of different link-layer mechanisms in the current Internet. Copper-based links, fiber-based...
متن کاملOn the Performance of MPLS TE Queues for QoS Routing
Traffic engineering (TE) refers to techniques and processes to route traffic through a network on a path other than that would have been chosen if standard routing methods had been used. The goal of traffic engineering to a service provider is to maximize the utilization of network resources, and/or enhance QoS a service provider can offer. To justify the increase in network operational complex...
متن کاملTraffic engineering with OSPF-TE and RSVP-TE: Flooding reduction techniques and evaluation of processing cost
This paper considers two important aspects related to the control plane of Traffic Engineered IP/MPLS networks: the “flooding reduction” mechanisms and the evaluation of processing cost for signaling and routing protocols. The flooding reduction mechanisms are needed to reduce the amount of information exchanged by Traffic Engineering enabled routing protocols. The trade off between the amount ...
